We will cover the use of Global FAST point-of-care ultrasound that includes TFAST® fundamental echocardiography (cardiac markers, pulmonary artery size and distensibility index, thrombi and intracardiac heartworms), Vet BLUE® lung ultrasound (Wedge Sign of PTE), and AFAST® (characterizing the caudal vena cava and hepatic veins, ascites and fluid scoring, and gallbladder wall edema) and its use as a screening test to suspect and detect pulmonary hypertension (PH). The talk will include the ACVIM Consensus Guidelines including pathophysiology categories and causes and other important clinical studies regarding early PH detection. Caval Syndrome, with the exciting lifesaving procedure of heartworm extraction are a final subcategory that will be discussed.
