Many veterinarians believe that they do not have time to help their clients with behavior problems and yet problem behaviors are a leading cause of death in dogs and cats.Triage is the sorting of patients and allocation of treatment according to a system of priorities designed to maximize survival. The principles of triage can be applied to behavior problems allowing veterinarians to give their clients the basic information needed to prevent the worsening of their pets behavior problems. This presentation covers some of the most important questions to ask and factors to consider when giving people appropriate behavior advice. In addition, useful resources as well as the use of some behavioral band-aids will be reviewed.
