Description
Traditional spaying and neutering remove the gonads, which results in sustained, supraphysiologic luteinizing hormone concentrations. Luteinizing hormone (LH) receptors are present in every endocrine organ as well as ligament and bone, vascular tissue and lymphocytes, and the behavior centers of the brain that regulate anxiety, fear, and aggression. This lecture will explain how persistent activation of LH receptors can cause many of the long-term health problems reported more commonly in spayed and neutered dogs.
