This hands on lab will be taught by Dr. Avery Bennett and Dr. Tracey Ritzman. This workshop will teach the principles and techniques of advanced avian soft tissue surgery procedures. It is recommended attendees have knowledge and experience with basic avian soft tissue principles to enroll for this laboratory. Microsurgical techniques will be reviewed, including microsurgical instrument use and applications as well as use of surgical magnification equipment such as surgical head loupe utilization. Surgical procedures to be taught in this laboratory include cloacotomy, ventral midline and left lateral celiotomy, intestinal resection and anastomosis, ventriculotomy, ventricular and proventricular biopsy, liver biopsy, salipingohysterectomy, orchidectomy, and tracheotomy.
