Description
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is common in older cats. Diagnosing and staging this disease is an important part of management. Nutrition has long been a cornerstone of disease management, and strategies for nutritional intervention of CKD will be discussed. A new approach to dietary management of CKD through manipulation of the gut-kidney axis with prebiotic fibers will be introduced. The results of studies using this fiber technology in cats will be reviewed, as will the overall importance of nutrition in disease management.
