Description
Description: One hour of didactic lecture followed by 3 hours of hands-on experience performing dental procedures on rabbit cadavers. Procedures include, but are not limited to incisor trimming, cheek teeth occlusal adjustment, incisor extraction, and cheek teeth extraction. Odontogenic abscess management may be included depending on cadaver availability.
Learning Objectives:
• Upon completion, lab participants will understand the etiology and pathophysiology of acquired dental disease in rabbits.
• Attendees will become familiar with the clinical signs, presentations, and diagnosis of acquired rabbit dental disease.
• Participants will become familiar with and use the equipment necessary for treating dental disease in rabbits and other small herbivores.
• Upon completion, participants will be able to identify lesions, reduce dental spurs and crowns, remove incisor teeth, and remove cheek teeth in rabbits and other small herbivores.
• Attendees will be able to provide appropriate perioperative and post-operative care for rabbits undergoing dental procedures.
• Lab participants will learn where to provide local anesthetic blocks for dental procedures in the rabbit
• Depending on diseased cadaver availability, participants will have basic understanding on odontogenic abscess management.
