Description
This presentation reports on a case series of four male guinea pigs treated for cystoliths using percutaneous endoscopic cystolithotomy (PCCL). To the author’s knowledge, this is the first report describing the application of this technique in guinea pigs. Compared to traditional cystotomy, PCCL offers significant advantages, including minimized trauma to the skin and bladder wall, accelerated postoperative recovery, and superior visualization of the bladder mucosa for assessment and biopsy. These benefits are particularly clinically relevant given the high rate of urolith recurrence in this species. Notably, this series observed extended survival times compared to historical literature. The session will detail the surgical procedure, clinical outcomes, and a discussion of the technique's potential.
