Exotic animal veterinarians often undertake technical tasks that should be delegated to credentialed veterinary technicians, technician assistants, or other support staff. Barriers such as inadequate training, high staff turnover, and limited trust frequently reduce veterinarians' comfort with delegation, ultimately harming financial performance. This lecture reviews current literature to identify evidence-based strategies for in-clinic training programs that equip exotic veterinary technicians and assistants with the essential knowledge and skills. Addressing these barriers can improve job satisfaction among support staff, enable veterinarians to focus on clinical cases, and boost the practice's financial performance.
