Description
The Mexican Axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum) is a species of neotenic aquatic salamander native to central Mexico. They are one of the only species capable of fully regenerating tissues after injury or amputation throughout their lives. When kept as household pets, axolotls are prone to a variety of illnesses relating to husbandry, infectious diseases, and other conditions requiring veterinary attention. Neoplasia in the axolotl is relatively uncommon. Anatomy and physiology, essential clinical techniques, diagnostics, anesthesia, surgery, and supportive care measures for the axolotl patient will be presented in this session.
