An increasing number of exotic pet owners are choosing to provide naturalistic habitats for their pets with the goal of improving animal welfare. While this type of housing has well-documented benefits, it also presents unique challenges that can lead to medical issues. Exotic veterinarians should be well versed in how to identify and address these challenges effectively. This lecture will review the logistics of creating and managing naturalistic habitats, and common health problems associated with their use.
