Doctor Ashton Boon is a true Florida native. She received her B.S. in Biology from Florida State University and then went on to earn her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Florida in 2023. During her time in vet school, she was a member of zoological medicine and herpetology clubs, which fostered her love for exotic animal medicine. Moreover, she participated in research on an emerging viral disease in snakes, which culminated in her first publication by the time she graduated. After graduation, Dr. Boon successfully completed a yearlong internship in exotic animal medicine here at Avian and Exotic Animal Care.

Dr. Boon takes great pride in the unique and specialized care of exotic animals. Her professional interests are broad, but she especially loves taking care of reptiles and amphibians and is working towards board specialization in reptile medicine. In particular, she has an interest in infectious diseases of reptiles.

Dr. Boon shares her home with her husband and their daughter, a cat (Shepherd), two ferrets (Deimos and Phobos), a hamster (Poppy), a rosy boa (Marigold), a betta fish, and several poison dart frogs. Outside work, she can be found at the gym, drawing and painting, reading, or maintaining her collection of live plants and animal enclosures.
