CT-Scan findings in Rabbit Maxillofacial Abscess : New data on a classic disease
Description
This lecture is providing some descriptive data about rabbit maxillofacial abscess tomodensimetric findings. Facial abscesses are commonly encountered clinically in rabbit medicine and are best investigated with advance diagnostic imaging such as CT-scan and Cone-beam CT. Relationship with progressive dental disease is well established, although they may also arise from non-dental cause. Accurate diagnosis is critical to orientate treatment strategy and prognosis. Key topics covered include - Topographic correlation of facial abscess and underlying process Whenever a superficial abscess is observed clinically, how often a dental disease is associated to this lesion and what is the extend of this process ? - Lesion distribution related to each tooth For each tooth, how common are abscesses and what is their tomodensitometric features ? - Other non dental-associated causes of abscess such as sialadenitis, cervicofacial cellulitis, pyodermatits or parasitic cyst. Non dental causes of abscesses are a minority compared to periapical abscess, however several entities have been recently described such as salivary gland disease or cervicofacial cellulitis, which could be mistaken as a facial abscess and may be misleading for both radiologist and surgeon. Retrospective from 530 rabbit facial abscess received through a telediagnostic service over 3 year. Iconic clinical case will be presented. This lecture provide meaningful epidemiological data for practionner who do not have immediate access to advance diagnostic imaging, as well as radiologist for Ct-scan reading guidance
