Course Description:
We will discuss the frustrations in recognizing cancer pain and why early
recognition is essential. There are multiple sources of cancer pain which
are different from other types of pain. This is due physiology specific to
cancer and the tumor microenvironment. Multiple analgesic options
including medical, surgical and oncological treatments are available and
have both risks and benefits. The differences between palliative and
definitive care goals and how pain management is utilized in both
situations will also be discussed.
