The tropical fish industry is unique in that it includes both domestic culture and international trade of over 2,500 species from more than 125 countries. In the United States tropical fish aquaculture is a multimillion dollar industry concentrated primarily in Florida. This lecture will review the common husbandry practices of domestic tropical fish aquaculture. Additionally, it will touch on how tropical fish species domesticated through years of aquaculture practices should be viewed differently from their wild counterparts by the home hobbyist and fish veterinarian alike.
