Description
An 8 year old intact male chinchilla presented with concerns about dropping food for 4 days. Examination revealed right mandibular cheek tooth malocclusion, but also revealed a grade 4/6 left sided systolic cardiac murmur. Thoracic radiographs revealed moderate to severe right sided cardiomegaly. Cardiac ultrasound revealed left to right shunting through a 4 mm atrial septal defect. This is the first reported case of atrial septal defect in a chinchilla
