Name
Ferret Dysuria: An Urgent Medical Condition
Date & Time
Sunday, August 25, 2024, 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Cathy Johnson-Delaney
Description

Ferrets that are dysuric and have a distended bladder, should not be treated as you would a blocked cat or dog. The etiologies are varied and immediate evacuation of the bladder needs to be done to prevent atony. Bladder atony in ferrets can happen as quickly as 48-72 hours of distension, and medical care may not reverse it. Etiologies, imaging, diagnostic testing, and treatments will be discussed. Prognosis can be grave if the condition is handled like that of a cat or dog. Several cases will be presented.
