Speaker Bio
Etienne Côté DVM, DACVIM
Professor at the Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island (Canada)
Etienne earned his DVM at Cornell in 1993 and worked in general practice before undertaking residencies in cardiology and small animal internal medicine at the California Animal Hospital in Los Angeles. He says ten years in general and specialty practice were a great foundation for an academic career at the University of PEI, where he teaches cardiology and clinical communication. He is most proud of training students, interns, and residents, and of creating or co-editing veterinary resources: the Clinical Veterinary Advisor, Ettinger’s Textbook of Veterinary Internal Medicine, the Veterinary Drug Index, and the one and only Veterinary Board Games. His everyday challenge is a variant on academic freedom: balancing enthusiasm for sharing what is already known with holding back so learning has room to take place and grow on its own.
