Speaker Bio
Dr. Jennifer Wiley was born and raised in rural Indiana, where she received her veterinary degree from Purdue University in 2006. She then pursued a small animal medicine and surgery rotating internship at the University of Illinois and a 3-year medical oncology residency at the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary Hospital, completed in 2010.
Dr. Wiley has had an interest in oncology since she first started in veterinary medicine. She was drawn to the field due to very personal experiences of losing her mother to breast cancer at a young age and later being diagnosed with the BRCA1 mutation, a genetic mutation with severely high risk for breast and ovarian cancer in women. Dr. Wiley’s personal experiences and the measures she has taken to prevent her own cancer have helped her better understand cancer itself and the emotional and physical stress that pets and their families endure. This helps to strengthen her client relationships and bring a steadfast compassion into her oncology practice.
Dr. Wiley moved to San Antonio in 2011 and now considers it to be home. She was the first full-time board-certified oncologist to settle in San Antonio. In clinical practice, Dr. Wiley is devoted to helping oncology patients and clients through all phases of a cancer diagnosis, including staging evaluation, discussing all treatment options, providing prognostic information and expectations, providing quality of life for all patients, and end-of-life care when necessary.
In her free time, Dr. Wiley enjoys traveling, wine education and exploration, concerts, and many outdoor activities. At home, she has a menagerie of rescue cats and dogs with a special fondness for orange boy cats and rescue pitbulls.
