Cecilia has always had a passion for exotic and wildlife animals since the early years in University, where she worked also in a wildlife center in Puglia. After she graduated in Veterinary Medicine at University of Bari in 2018, she chose to follow her passion by working in the most important exotic animal medicine centers, one of which is CVS in Rome, where she's still working. In 2021 she got her Master's degree in "Reproduction, management, pathology and therapy of unconventional animals". She worked with University of Padua to give lectures on small mammals medicine in 2020 and she worked also with METS Society (Medical Education & Training Service) in 2024 as a speaker of on demand lessons focused on reptiles and small mammals medicine. She loves surgery, cardiology and emergency medicine of these interesting animals.

Dr. Joerg Mayer grew up in Germany where he received his primary education. He went to Budapest / Hungary to study veterinary medicine shortly after the “iron curtain” fell. During his studies, he was fortunate to be able to work with veterinarians in South Africa and Namibia for 6 months. He always had a strong interest in exotic animal medicine. After he received his doctoral degree from the University of Budapest/Hungary, he went to the USA for an internship in ‘Zoological Medicine and Surgery’ at the Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence, RI. At the end of the internship, he was part of a research team to study wild tree kangaroos in the rainforest of Papua New Guinea for 3 months. After this exciting experience, he went to the Royal Veterinary College in London / England to study for his Masters of Science degree in wild animal health. The masters project which focused on lead toxicity in the common loon brought him to the Tufts Wildlife Clinic in the USA. There he was hired to serve as a clinical associate professor and as the head of the clinical service for exotic animals. After 10 years at Tufts University, he moved to Athens, Georgia in 2010 to take the job of Associate Professor in Zoological Medicine at UGA.



He lectures regularly at large national and international conferences on all aspects of exotic animal medicine. Dr. Mayer qualified with the first batch of specialists in Exotic Companion Mammals as a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, in addition, he is also a Diplomate of the European and the American College of Zoological Medicine. He served as the president of the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians from 2010-2012.



Dr. Mayer published many scientific articles, book chapters some of which have been translated into French, Spanish and Portuguese. His latest book the “Veterinary Clinical advisor for birds and exotic pets” was published in early 2013 and contains over 750 page.

Dr. Mayer has been a beekeeper since 2007 and he passed his certification exam of the Georgia Master Beekeeper Program offered from the Young Harris Beekeeping Institute and UGA.

Dr. Brynn McCleery graduated from Cornell University. She completed a specialty internship at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists, followed by a dual ABVP residency in Avian and Exotic Companion Mammal Practice at the University of Tennessee. She is department head of the Avian & Exotics Service at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital.

Colin McDermott is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor of Avian and Exotic Medicine at the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Science at City University of Hong Kong. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, he completed a two-year specialty internship in exotics at UPenn, and a fellowship at the National Aquarium in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland. In 2019, he moved to Hong Kong to work at Zodiac Pet and Exotic Hospital, where he still performs clinical duties as part of his academic role. He is currently a Certified Aquatic Veterinarian through the World Aquatic Veterinary Medical Association and a Diplomate of the American Board of Reptile and Amphibian Practice. He has contributed to several book chapters and manuscripts on exotic animal medicine, and provided lectures and practical laboratories on exotic animal medicine for local and international veterinary conferences.
