A Certified Aquatic Veterinarian and graduate of Kansas State University, he has over a decade of experience working with ornamental fish, aquaculture species, and aquatic wildlife in private aquaria, public institutions, and zoo settings. Dr. Martinez completed AQUAVET I & III training and previously served as an associate veterinarian at Blank Park Zoo and Aquatic Health Advisor for Central Campus Aquarium Science & Marine Bio. He is a past President (2025) of the American Association of Fish Veterinarians and serves on Utah’s Fish Health Policy Board. Dr. Martinez is passionate about advancing aquatic animal medicine and elevating fish care to the standards seen in companion animal practice.

Nick has worked in veterinary hospitals treating a variety of animals, including zoo animals and
exotic pets. He was one of the first group of veterinarians certified as an Aquatic Veterinarian by
the World Aquatic Veterinary Medical Association, and in 2017 was designated as a Distinguished
Fellow of WAVMA. He is the Executive Editor for The Aquatic Veterinarian journal of the World

of her patients.
