Dr. Banta-Long grew up in northwest Indiana in a small midwestern town, Porter. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University. Last year, Dr. Banta-Long joined the team at the Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital as an exotic specialty intern and is currently their newest ECM resident. She has a particular interest in prevention medicine and surgery for all exotic species. Other interests include horse riding, reading, hiking and backpacking, exploring restaurants, and travelling. Dr. Banta-Long lives with her dog (Tigger), crested gecko (Steve) and three African Dwarf frogs.

Dr. Beaufrère graduated from the University of Lyon, France, in 2006. He completed a combined
PhD/Zoological Medicine Residency at Louisiana State University and the Audubon Nature Institute. He
served as a staff veterinarian and assistant professor at the Ontario Veterinary College, University
of Guelph, for 8 years before joining the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of
California, Davis, in 2021 as an Associate Professor in companion zoological medicine and surgery.
Dr. Beaufrère is board-certified by the European College of Zoological Medicine (Avian), the American
Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Avian), and the American College of Zoological Medicine
(Zoological Companion Animals). His research focuses on lipid disorders in birds and reptiles and
clinical research in avian and exotic animals.

Alexandra Berry is a first year zoological companion animal resident at UC Davis. Prior to beginning her residency, she completed two speciality exotics internships and a rotating internship all in Sydney Australia. She graduated from the University of Sydney in 2022.

Dr. Heather Bjornebo earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from South Dakota State University and her DVM from Iowa State University. She is board-certified in Reptile and Amphibian Practice through the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners and holds a Certification in Aquatic Veterinary Medicine (CertAqV) from the World Aquatic Veterinary Medical Association. After moving to Arizona in 2007, she transitioned to practicing exclusively exotic animal medicine in 2012. In November 2024, she opened Tree of Life Exotic Pet Medical Center, an exotic-exclusive practice in Phoenix, Arizona. Her primary interests include reptile urogenital surgery and nutrition, and she frequently lectures on exotic animal medicine.

Ashton Boon received her B.S. in Biology from FSU, and went on to earn her DVM degree from UF in
2023. She then completed a yearlong internship in exotic animal medicine at Avian and Exotic Animal
Care, where she now works as an associate veterinarian. Her professional interests are broad, but
she especially loves taking care of reptiles and amphibians and is working towards board
specialization in reptile medicine. In particular, she has an interest in infectious diseases of
reptiles.

Dr. Teresa Bousquet grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. She knew she wanted to be a vet since grade 1. In her high school years she adopted a rabbit, Hazel, and through him she came to the realization that what she really wanted to be was an exotic animal veterinarian. She attended the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, graduating in 2007. She moved to Edmonton, Alberta and pursued her ambition of becoming an exotic animal veterinarian. It’s been a long journey, but in 2024 she achieved her dream of becoming a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in Exotic Companion Mammal Practice. She continues to live in Edmonton with her husband Peter, her cats Katniss and Mirabel, and her guinea pigs Victoria, Lillibet and Freddie.
