has worked in a variety of hospitals and roles around the country. Her favorite specialties are
exotics, anesthesia, and emergency medicine. She also greatly enjoys mentoring and supporting new
vet techs and assistants, and teaching them how to advocate for themselves and their patients. Eva
is striving to elevate the vet tech field by advocating for high standards of medical care, greater
technician utilization and title protection, and healthy/inclusive/professional workplace cultures.
Outside of her career, Eva enjoys reading, crafting, music, and camping.

pathology residency at the University of Florida in 1991. Dr. Garner became board certified in anatomic pathology in 1994, and founded his specialty diagnostic practice, Northwest ZooPath,
that same year. Mike has over 200 scientific publications and book chapters, over 400 professional presentations, and is the co-editor of the new two volume atlas and text, Diseases and
Pathology of Reptiles. He consults for over 100 zoos and approximately 200 private clinics and wildlife facilities. Dr. Garner is also a recipient of the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians’
Duane E. Ullrey Achievement Award, the Distinguished Veterinary Alumnus Award from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University, and the Davis Thompson
Foundations’ Robert Farrell Award for Excellence in Teaching. When not working, mike enjoys literature, American history, vintage motorcycles, bass fishing and blues guitar.

Lauren Gawel is a 2022 DVM graduate of the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. She then completed a small animal rotating internship at a private practice referral hospital, Bulger Veterinary Hospital in Lawrence, MA. After this, she returned to Tufts to complete her specialty internship as the Zoological Companion Animal Medicine / Emergency and Critical Care split intern. Following this, she now works as a senior avian and exotic animal medicine staff veterinarian at the referral hospital Angell West Animal Medical Center in Waltham, MA where she sees appointments, transfers, and inpatients as well as sees and consults for emergency cases, and oversees rotating and exotic specialty interns. She spends her free time as the ARAV Education Committee Chair and hanging out with her fiancé, dog, cat, and leopard gecko.
